Souper Bowl Sunday is an outgrowth of one young seminarian's idea to fight hunger in his South Carolina community some 20 year's ago. He organized the junior high students in 22 churches to convince people to donate one can of soup with a one dollar bill wrapped around it on Super Bowl Sunday to be donated to the charity of their choice. That effort raised $5,700. In 2010 the total was almost 13,000 groups and over 10 million dollars. Now a national organization, Souper Bowl of Caring, with a web site www.souperbowl.org, the organization has contributed over $70 million to food pantries, soup kitchens and similar groups in the last 20 years. Be sure to bring your soup and dollar bill to church on Super Bowl Sunday!!
